Why is
this project relevant?

The aim of the project was instilling food security, self-reliance and building identity for Rohingya refugees residing in temporary settlement of New Delhi, India.

The project recognized a gap created by the discrimination between alive and living and proposed a service to not just address the pressing issue of nutrient deficiencies in the community, but also develop a sense of general wellbeing by using the existing skills of Rohingya refugees in bamboo work and leveraging their cultural knowledge of farming.

Research context:

The situation in which these refugees are living is getting worse everyday and they do not have any option other that waiting for the help provided by UNHCR, they are compelled to do jobs in informal sector because they don't have an identity proof that can give them a salaried job, they cant own or rent land in residential colonies so they have to live near the river with huge mountains formed by dumped medical & household waste.

"A refugee got severe infection in his hand because he came in contact with a used syringe needle while segregating medical waste."

Proposing a service which not only provides food/nutrition but also helps achieve self resilience for their mental well being.

Even though they get ration from UNHCR  but that ration includes food that mostly contains carbohydrates and fats and very less amount of the nutrients, minerals and other elements required for our body to function properly, fish being a staple food of Rohingyas in Myanmar also contains a lot of potential nutrients required.

so through primary & secondary research we tried to find out fishes that can be grown in Inland India under the system of aqua farming through which they can get a nutrient rich thali in their food and also earn a living out of it and because after a certain time the system becomes self sufficient the earning and nutrients can help them achieve a health brain and heart, would help fighting the depression and ultimately lead to a healthy lifestyle to achieve mental and physical wellbeing.
